FOCL:  What We Do

Our Mission Statement:

The mission of the Friends of the Corrales Library is to foster, enhance and expand the library’s unique environment, collections and programs for the benefit of the community. These goals are achieved through fund-raising, endowment administration and community outreach.

The Corrales Community Library, housed in the beautiful, quirky building at 84 West La Entrada Road, is known as "The Library the People Built" for good reason.  The original adobe structure, completed in 1979, was lovingly built entirely by community volunteers-- without a penny of federal, state or county money.  Since that time, the library has had five major expansions and added a plethora of both adult and children's programs.  Each step of the way, the Friends of the Corrales Library has been there to lend a hand with the organization of volunteer efforts and providing funds where public monies are lacking.  Today, FOCL pays for the entirety of the library's children's, teen and adult programs and events-- that includes all Adult Lifelong Learning offerings and Youth Programs, including the ever-popular Summer Reading Program.  FOCL also funds the DVD collection and the library' subscription to the New York Times.

"For generations, the library here has served as a refuge, a learning center, a cultural center and a deep well of community spirit."

--Corrales Comment, 2007

Over the years, FOCL has also stepped in to help fund library additions, provide furnishings and shelving, pay for emergency building repair, computer maintenance or replacement, and supply other incidentals needed to run the library.  All money and goods donated to the library are administered by the Friends of the Corrales Library, but please know that every penny is either spent in promotion of the library, held, where it is carefully nurtured for future use by the library, or-- and this is the majority of funds-- it is given to the librarians to spend on budgeting over the next fiscal year.  So, every time you purchase a FOCL membership, attend a fundraiser, donate a book or make a purchase at a book sale, you are bringing smiles to the faces of so many in our community by directly helping the library that we all so love.  Please consider joining us today. "Be a Friend."
